Upper Basin Excavating

Upper Basin Excavating (UBE) is a division of RA Nelson, providing comprehensive earthwork services for projects of all sizes including residential, recreational, and commercial. The UBE office is located at the RA Nelson headquarters in Avon. In addition to the Vail Valley, UBE performs work in Aspen/The Roaring Fork Valley, Summit County, Steamboat and Telluride.

Preconstruction

Our Preconstruction Team is the most accurate and thorough in the mountain region, utilizing innovative tools and technology to provide our clients with detailed estimates, accurate quantity take-offs, constructability analysis, and construction scheduling. Our preconstruction tools and software include the Autodesk Suite of Navisworks 3D Modeling Software, Build, Revit, Takeoff, Building Connected and ProEst. In addition, we use Roctek Cut & Fill Software, SolidBuilder Framing Pro, Powerproject Scheduling, Matterport, Hilti Total Station and CMiC. We are accurate and transparent with our estimates - allowing you to make informed decisions early on and throughout the entire project.

  • CONCEPTUAL DESIGN

    In the initial phase of design and construction of your project, RA Nelson will complete a thorough site analysis and will provide early pricing models to ensure the feasibility of achieving your budget and expectations.

  • SCHEMATIC DESIGN

    With an understanding of the overall project objectives, we will start to build a detailed estimate, introduce sustainable and innovative elements, and help the team develop a sequencing plan for design, procurement, and construction.

  • DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

    By using 3D Building Information Models, acquiring accurate digital take-offs, and engaging subcontractors for feedback, our team of professionals will analyze your home or project for constructability and building efficiencies, system requirements, and continue to refine the estimate and schedule.

  • CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTATION

    Finalizing the estimate, confirming quantities, calculating cash flow requirements, recommending subcontractors, securing approvals, and ensuring the design and budget expectations are aligned. We provide you with all the information you need to make informed decisions.

  • TRANSITION

    The team will be fully integrated and engaged as we move into the construction phase of your home or project. Our Superintendents, Project Managers, and Preconstruction department work together as a unified front to ensure an efficient and clear path of communication. Qualified Subcontractors will be chosen, contracts will be written, and construction will start.

RA Nelson creates a detailed and accurate schedule of the entire construction process, which is continuously reviewed and updated on a weekly basis. You and the entire team will always have a perspective of where we are, where we are going, and how we are going to get there.

    Great homes and projects require the highest level of quality at every phase of construction. Initiated in preconstruction with an in-depth analysis of the plans to identify constructability issues and resolve potential conflicts, we thoroughly review the specs and manufacturer requirements for each assembly. During construction, we utilize a sophisticated mobile reporting system to record field observations and provide photo documentation of the entire project.
