Walking Mountains Science Center | Avon, Colorado

Walking Mountains Science Center is an award-winning, LEED® Platinum natural science school and museum. The center has three buildings that take full advantage of solar gain for heating and natural air movement for cooling. The building envelopes were specifically designed and built to control thermal bridging and unwanted air infiltration. Utilizing double wall construction, thermal decoupling, insulation systems, and exterior air barrier detailing, the team accomplished an average R-45 insulation value in the walls.

"RA Nelson was the General Contractor throughout the three phases of construction of our campus, in total six buildings, and we could not be more pleased with our working relationship with their team and the quality of the construction of all our buildings. We hired RA Nelson early on in our design process to inform pricing and it proved to be beneficial to take full advantage of their well-organized preconstruction services to manage our project budget. Their high level of organization carried through to construction, building completion, and the move in and warranty period. When we first opened the doors of our campus, the highest compliment we received was that the buildings had exceeded the expectations of our board and staff."
